2010 Upper Deck 2 Hobby Box Break: The Goods

I worry that the title may be horrifically misleading.  There are very few "goods" in this post.  These, sadly, are the best cards from the boxes.  At least the Gold Portraits Cust is an eBay 1/1, right?

I got one of the 10th Anniversary 2000 Upper Deck Star Rookie Update.  These cards are numbered to be an extension of the 2000 Upper Deck set.  I have no idea why.  The card on the left isn't the back, it's a separate card.  Each card comes with an explanation card and both are tucked into a penny sleeve.  It was pretty bizarre to open a pack with a penny sleeve in it.  Again, this card is nice, but lacks star power.  Brandon Inge just doesn't cut it.

Now, this is definitely an improvement over the first two cards.  Given the amount of cards in the set, pulling a gold card of a recognizable name is a plus.  Besides, it's also an eBay 0.5/1, since 4 is half of his jersey number.

Enough with the pseudo hits.  Here's the real stuff, jersey cards first:

The white swatches came in the first box, the grey ones in the second.  I dig the Mo, as he's a surefire HOFer, and the Kemp should be tradeable, but the other two are a little of a letdown.

What you really want to see is the autos.  I gotta add a little suspense, though...

F*** the f***ing f** what the f*** you have to be f***ing kidding me you piece of f***.

Let me tell you a story.  Once upon a time, my wife and I were at a Target in Richmond, VA.  In the $1.59 packs, I found a pack of 2008 Upper Deck X.  When I opened it, to my surprise, I found an autograph.  "What an attractive signature Brian Bixler has," I said to my wife.  Fast forward a few months.  I'm looking at the auto checklist for 2010 UD and looking at stuff on COMC when I see the 2010 UD Brian Bixler auto is a possibility.  I immediately assumed that one of my autographs, as a reward for my finding his signature attractive, would be his.  My only hope was that the other autograph would be good enough to make up for such a crappy pull. As it turns out, I jinxed the f*** out of my boxes.  These two even have the same damn picture as the 2008 UDX one.  Son of a...

What a disappointing break.

...wait...what's this?  This base card doesn't look like the regular base card...I just did a double take...wait..it's a Double Take Variation:

The top one is a Rare Double Take Variation where "Marketplace" is airbrushed out and a ball is shopped in.  This is easily the best card in the box.  The only one I can find anywhere is listed on eBay for $60.  This one may be headed to eBay to recoup some of the box costs unless someone wants to offer me something sweet!

Talk about a break-saver.

Also, I've finally gotten around to sorting my base cards, and I've posted my want list.

That's rough on the autos, but at least you noticed the double take.

Oh man that situation with the autos is hilarious1! Unenviable for sure, but also hilarious!

And that Inge card is so weird.

Very cool variation card, good catch.
If the Mo is available let me know, I still got to show you the Upton I have to offer you for the Vlad a bit back and I have some other stuff set aside for you.

actually, the Bixlers should count as the first "double-take"!!! He does have an interesting autograph though. Speaking of double-takes, what a crappy shop job on the marketplace too. I'd have to look, but I think Tolbert is the first Auto I ever pulled from a pack, and that was an Opening-Day, gravity fed, Target retail pack at that! Despite the letdowns, I do love this set and am also working towards finishing at least the base.

Tulo's wrist band had a Nike swoosh added to it too.
