LCS Trip

I swing by the LCS every once in a while just to flip through some cards, buy some dime-box cards for trade fillers, grab some trade bait and pick up some (usually old crappy cheap) packs.  A few weeks ago, Chemgod of Bad Wax talked about going there. In fact, I jacked his picture:

As usual, I grabbed a bunch of cheapo old junk packs (which will appear in later posts) and thumbed through the boxes of loose cards.  I also went through the football GU and Auto box and ended up snagging this guy for $4.

2009 SPx Winning Combos Dual Jersey #47/59 Donnie Avery and Eddie Royal - a nice addition to my Eddie Royal collection.  Man, that guy was fun to watch at Tech.

Anyway, I will show one pack that I bought.  I occasionally pick up a pack of something new, and this time was 2011 Topps Heritage Minors.  I really didn't have any real reason to buy a pack, other than they are just so pretty. It's a much better looking pack than the green MLB version.

The base cards were mainly guys I had never heard of with the exception of Pomeranz.  I picked him up for one good start for my fantasy team in the finals.

The pack wasn't boring for long, though, as this guy fell out:

That would be a Adrelton Simmons Clubhouse Collection Relic Red Tint #16/99.  A nice hit, a parallel, and a Virginia team to boot.  For those of you not in the know (as myself before going to google), Lynchburg is affiliated with the Atlanta Braves organization.

Andrelton is an interesting prospect.  He was drafted as a pitcher, but debuted as a shortstop.  One analyst said that while his .276 BA in the rookie league was surprising, his bat didn't translate to higher levels.  The only problem with that is he played 132 games in A+ this year for Lynchburg and hit .311. Apparently his bat does translate.  The catch with him playing shortstop, however, is that he apparently has hit 98 on the radar gun as a pitcher.  Impresseive, to say the least.

Well, that card was a pleasant surprise in a pack I had really low expectations for. On side note, that's the first pack I have opened in the LCS at the counter in a long time.  It was slow there as the weather was horrible and their A/C was down, so I stayed inside where it was dry and chatted with the guy there and ripped my pack.  If you are ever around the Hampton/Newport News area, head over to Jersey's, they're good people.  Chemgod and Dawgbones can attest to that.

I'll have to check it out if I'm down in the area. All of the card shops here in Richmond kinda suck.

You'll have to let me know if you get down there, I love that shop and it's only about 3 minutes from my work. I stop by there a lot.
How much were the minors cards Spankee, I may have to stop and pick some up. I love the Minor logos and what not...
