Sometimes, the internet is truly amazing. When I was a kid, my dad told me that his grandfather, William Cowling, died in a train accident in West Virginia in the early 1900s. Today, you can find the accident report here. My great-grandfather was 49 years old at the time of the accident. His son, my grandfather, was just over a year old.
