well this year it's a monday, so it means back to work.

Now if you want to ask what July 1st means to me...that's different.
Celebrations... of freedom, of family... like any holiday, a time to give thanks for all that we hold dear.

The 4th of July is a celebration of freedom, independence, and America's radness.

As a kid it only meant fireworks and hot dogs. Being married to an immigrant, my view of this holiday has matured. To me, celebrating this day is a way to acknowledge the amazing experiment that is the United States, and remembering that we are absolutely set up to solve our problems if we could ever get a grip on ourselves.

July 4th is a day to remember that our nation started because a handful of people had the backbone to stand up to a tyrannical ruler and the ability to get the colonists to believe in their vision.

As with the Napkin, it only meant we were doing something as a family - watching fireworks, grilling, something like that. The logical side of me still thinks of things like fireworks and traveling, but more from an "avoid the traffic" point of view. But honestly, when I think of what Independence Day means to me, I think of how good things really are here in America, despite how much we like to complain. And I still think like that, despite my situation.

July 4th has always helped serve to get together with family you don't see as often as you'd like. For the past 10 years or so, it has also meant a trip to the Buffalo Bisons game to watch a game and then see the Buffalo Philharmonic play.

It means cars, appliances and mattresses are on sale.

Well at least that's what advertisements would lead someone with no clue to believe.

To ME, the fourth is a day for remembering the greatest upset in world history.

The 4th of July. The simple fact that a little over 200 years ago, that founders of this GReat country thought about our freedom enough to throw off tyranny creating true Independence.

To me, the 4th of July is a day of remembrence for what our founding fathers went through not only to found our great nation, but to preserve it though careful crafted legal documents and a war against our oppresors.

And hot dogs eating contests.

In all seriousness, living in the Northern VA area gives me a great appreciation for being born in the USA this time of year because of being around all the immigrants that have come to this country to seek what I was born in to. Freedom from persecution of all kinds and the ability to persue your life the way you see fit.

The 4th to me is a celebration of our freedoms and democratic way of life. We need to remember how lucky we are to live in such a great country and the 4th is the perfect day to do so.
On the fun side of things it's a great holiday for family, friends, swimming, BBQ, fireworks, and good old backyard parties.

The 4th of July reminds me how lucky we are to live in this country. We have so much to be thankful for and yet many people take it for granted.

A day off from work, relaxing and waxing patriotic, usually blisteringly hot weather, BBQing, and did I mention relaxing?

Morgan said...

We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday living that today is a day to slow down and remind us how lucky we are to live in this country.

Oh, and it means there's a huge fireworks display after the Braves game tonight! Can't wait!

A day to wear red, white and blue and take a step back to remember what a great country we live in. A time to relax, visit with family, eat some burgers and dogs and watch the Yanks.

USA, this Bud's for you!

The 4th of July means freedom from tyranny, oppression, and unlawful government. It gives us a chance to reflect on what a great country we have that others are not so lucky to enjoy. Peace.
